Easy – Grouse Mountain Overlook, Lost Pond
Moderate – Osborn Homestead Loop, Overlook Ridge
Difficult – Cheeseman Ranch, Elk Meadow
– We did the Cheeseman Ranch Trail
This was about 6 mile hike we did. We started from the Peak View Trailhead. This trail starting point took us closer to highway 67 than I would have preferred to be. But there is a huge variety of trail options here. Also, there is a kids’ nature trail, playground and an abundance of picnic spots. It seems like it would be more likely to encounter wildlife with all of the Meadows here but we only encountered overly friendly Gray Jay’s. State Park access was $7 and the station was manned, so we were able to use a credit card. I think this park would be a good option in the winter because the roads are all paved.

We hiked in late October with 60 degree temps. 13.2 miles is pretty long, it took us about six hours, it is an option to hike part of the way and turn back. There was more up and down than I thought there would be. The views from the south side were gorgeous. I think it may be a decent winter hike as the trail was well marked and traveled with good sun exposure. It seems to be a great mountain biking trail, with a few technical areas we saw bikers walking their bikes over, but it seems like a moderate trail overall. Also, lots of picnic options at this reservoir. Dirt road access, but seems like it would be accessible to all vehicle types

This hike was a good length hike at 4.8 miles but did have some ascent. It took about 3 hours in and back. The views from the top were amazing. All of the traffic and rocks at the top made the trail hard to find, not sure if I would attempt this in snow. Dirt road access, but seems like it would be accessible to all vehicle types.
